ABOUT THE BOOK
A shocking murder at the Palace of Westminster draws Edinburgh’s toughest cop into a complex new case….
Skinner is plunged into a web of politics and enemies in State Secrets, the 28th mystery in Quintin Jardine’s best-selling crime series.
Former Chief Constable Bob Skinner is long out of the police force, but trouble has a habit of following him around. So it is that he finds himself in the Palace of Westminster as a shocking act befalls the nation.
Hours before the Prime Minster is due to make a controversial statement, she is discovered in her office with a letter opener driven through her skull. Is the act political? Personal? Or even one of terror? Skinner is swiftly enlisted by the Security Service to lead the investigation. Reunited with Met Police Commander Neil McIlhenney, he has 48 hours to crack the case – before the press unleash their wrath. There are many in the tangled web of government with cause to act. But the outcome will be one that not even Skinner himself could predict….
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Quintin Jardine is a crusty but urbane Scot, in his prime, and done with disclosing his age. He was born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, and educated there and in Glasgow, where he studied snooker and, in his leisure moments, law, at what was then the city’s only University. After deciding that he would never reach professional status in either discipline, he looked towards a broader horizon. He enjoyed, most of the time, a wholly unplanned, but eventful career as a journalist, government information officer, political spin-doctor and media relations consultant, before deciding to find a job that was more in touch with reality. Thus he took to the creation of crime fiction like a Trident-loaded nuclear submarine to water and thus the much-acclaimed and best-selling series of detective novels, Bob Skinner.
ABOUT THE READER
James Bryce has two hats. As a Scottish actor, he has appeared in theatre, on television, radio and voice-over. As a composer, he has written in a variety of musical veins for theatre, BBC radio, the concert hall and the dimly-lit club.
