ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Aline Templeton grew up in the fishing village of Anstruther in Fife, Scotland went to school in St Andrews and read English at Cambridge University. She worked for a time in teaching then later in local radio and regional TV. She has written stories since she could hold a pencil – and before she could do joined-up writing – and throughout her twenties and early thirties wrote articles and short stories which were published in newspapers and magazines here and overseas. Her first crime novel was published when she was in my late thirties, and has written eleven more books: six stand-alone novels and more recently a series featuring DI Marjory Fleming and set in Galloway. With her husband, they have lived in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Shropshire and Perthshire, and now back in Edinburgh. They have a grown-up family and a Dalmatian, and live in a house with a balcony and terrace built by an astronomer for studying the stars and looking right out over the beautiful Edinburgh skyline – perfect for fireworks parties at New Year and the end of the Festival. Her son is a criminal defence lawyer and she finds his advice invaluable for keeping me straight on procedure. Her own experience as a Justice of the Peace for ten years has been useful too, especially when writing scenes in court. She has been Chair of the Society of Authors in Scotland and is currently a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross-party group for Media and Culture.

ABOUT THE READER
Lesley Mackie was born in Dundee and trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Lesley won a Laurence Olivier Award in 1986 for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the Musical play, Judy. Her earliest appearances were opposite Billy Connolly in The Great Northern Welly-Boot Show and The Wicker Man, for which she recorded the title song. Lesley lives in Scotland with her two children and husband, actor Terry Wale.
